The stunning beaches of Olympiada

The beaches of the gulf of Olympiada are know for their crystal clear waters and their clean golden sand. The shallow waters at a long distance from the shore, makes the popular for inexperienced swimmers and children. Ancient Stagira

Ancient Stagira is the most important historical site of Chalkidiki, located in Liotopi peninsula, right next to Olympiada. Exploring the area is a real treat. If you dont want to miss a thing, you should plan at least a 2 to 3 hour tour and make sure to visit the beach trail which is magnificent. The city was founded in 665 BC by Ionian colonists who arrived from the island of Andros. Later settlers from Halkida arrived there as well.

Every summer on August, cultural events take place in the area of Ancient Stagira with free admission.

Along the picturesque pedestrian road of Olympiada there are traditional taverns and restaurants that serve fresh fish and seafood delicacies brought from the bay of the village. Taste delightful appetizers and main courses made with love for all food lovers. The mussels of Olympiada are famous for their quality and fine taste. The feast of mussels & sardines in Olympiada

The feast takes place on July 7th, where traditional cultural events are organized by the members of the local traditional club. It is one of the most beautiful and hospitable celebrations.

The locals prepare appetizers, mussels, fresh sardines, traditional sweets and serve guests with local wine, retsina or ouzo. In this way the locals celebrate the sea for the gifts offered, promoting their local product (mussels) and their local tradition. Traditional Greek dances, music and songs compose a Greek, hospitable, summer atmosphere in front of the sea.

Walking & cycling routes

olympiada Dozens of hiking trails suitable for cycling as well are available in the area of Olympiada or in the countryside. These trails in combination with the mountain of Holomontas, compose a unique setting and provide a great range of activities for all ages.

The area has 7 official walking routes that are displayed on a map section. Each route has unique features and historical value. You can follow the one that suits your needs or customize your own.

Following the borderline to Athos - 3km

Archaeological route. From the Byzantine Tower of Prosforios of Ouranoupoli, this route leads to the borders of the monastic state, across the coastal road to the Zygos Monastery – a unique monument that demonstrates to all visitors – men and women alike – exactly how an Athonite Monastery functions.

Following the borderline to Athos - 8.9km

Pilgrimage route. Get a glimpse of the natural landscape of Mount Athos from the Komitsa beach to Ouranoupoli and back, following a pathway across the borders separating the Holy Community of Mount Athos from the rest of Greece.

The "natura" paths of the Aristotelian Mountain - 23.7km

Walk through the Varvara crossing to the amazing waterfalls of the Aristotelian Mountain through dense vegetation and a forest protected by the Natura 2000 European convention. A trully rejuvanating route among tall and shady trees.

Xerxes’ route - 4.5km

From Nea Roda to the port of Tripiti this route follows in the footsteps of the Persian king Xerxes, who in 482 B.C. took a shortcut as he led his fleet against ancient Greece. When you reach the buzzing port, take a 10 minute ferry to the island of Ammouliani. There you can find the beach “Alikes” or “Megali Ammos”.

From New to Ancient Stageira. From the Aristotelian Forest, the sole park of Halkidiki, to the archaeological site of Stageira in Olympiada, this unique route to the famous Aristotelian Mount is an environmental, cultural and historical route through time.

Mademochoria of History - 5.5km

Walk from Paleochori to Neposi Castle, an important Byzantine monument along an exceptional historic route through the mountains and the hills. Follow the footsteps of the proud local residents of Mademochoria, who never get enslaved by the Turkish during the Ottoman times. They bought their freedom by the rich mineral wealth of the subsoil.
